I flew! I fly! I’m a flier!!!

My brother in law Russ is a pilot and he offered to take Obadiah and I up for a spin as a birthday gift to Obadiah. We took off from the Sonoma County Airport and we were at the Pacific Shoreline in about 5 minutes!!! That’s usually about a 30 minute drive for us. It was almost sunset and the view was absolutely amazing! Then Obadiah got to fly the plane for a few minutes. You should have seen his face when he moved the yoke and the whole plane banked to the right!

Then he moved out of the co-pilot’s seat and let Daddy have a go at it. It is SO AMAZING to feel the plane respond to every movement you make on the yoke. It was really, really cool! I’ve always been the kind of person that feels the closest to God when I’m out in the middle of creation just enjoying nature. So, it was awesome to be able to see everything from this viewpoint. It was so beautiful.

p.s. keep an eye out for the look on Obadiah’s face right before he tosses his cookies… priceless!!!

DUDE. I waited for the whole video to load, just so I could see your kid barf. There was no such incident, not even a tiny little hurl, and so I am lodging my formal complaint.

I was totally going to document the "incident" but Russ started freaking out. Apparently the plane has been sold, and the new owner is picking it up later this week. Russ didn't want that "new plane smell" to be compromised by that "old barf smell".

Plus we couldn't find a barf bag, so I had to hold the beloved blanky as a barf target. So sad, blanky has been through so much trauma.

Jimmy, that was the best! Obediah is so lucky to have a dad who does such cool stuff with him, and then documents it in such a cool way. What a keepsake! Thank you for sharing it with us!

Liz.... Yeah, I remember those cross country trips... except mine were in the back of a white Ford Econoline van (insert your favorite shortbus joke here), and my cross country trips took 4 days. So, basically I have ZERO sympathy for you Liz!! ;-)

That's probably the coolest thing I've seen in a long time...
Jim, if you weren't my brother I'd want to be adopted by you;)

Speaking of vans, we had the Ford Econoline van also, but it was affectionately called our "Liesure Van", partly because it said so in HUGE LETTERS along both sides of it. Ahhh, the early 80's, gotta love them!

Great video. What a lucky kid.

I could never be a pilot. Everytime I had to use the "yoke", I'd get a craving for a Jimmy Dean Sausage and Egg Bagel.
